The Istanbul International Jazz Festival (Uluslararası İstanbul Caz Festivali) is arguably Istanbul's most prestigious summer event. The Samsung Boğaziçi Kıtalararası Yüzme Yarışı (Intercontinental Bosphorus Swim) is one of Istanbul's most iconic summer events — approximately 2,500 swimmers race from the Asian side (Kanlıca) to the European side (Kuruçeşme) across the Bosphorus Strait. The only regular race in the world that swims from one continent to another. Held in late July. Registration opens in early spring at bik.ist — it sells out within hours. Spectators watch free from the Ortaköy and Kuruçeşme shores.

June and July are the peak months for live music in Istanbul. The Istanbul Music Festival (classical) and Jazz Festival (jazz/world) both occur in this window, filling historic venues and outdoor amphitheatres.
