June is an excellent time to visit Istanbul — arguably the best month of summer. Temperatures are warm but not yet at peak July/August heat (average 24–29°C, rarely above 32°C). The sea is warm enough for a day trip to Kilyos or the Princes Islands. Tourist numbers are high but not at July/August peak. Most open-air terraces, rooftop bars and boat tours are fully operating. June is also Ramadan-free (Eid was in March 2026), so all restaurants serve normal hours.

Moderately busy. June sees significant tourist numbers — particularly European visitors who time their trip before school summer holidays end. The Hagia Sophia queue is noticeable but manageable if you go early (8am). Hotel prices are at peak-season rates. Ferries and the Bosphorus are very active. The city feels alive but not overwhelmed. Late June sees the first major surge as European school holidays begin.

Light summer clothing: linen or cotton shirts, shorts or light trousers, sandals for walking. For mosque visits: shoulders and knees must be covered — a scarf or wrap is easy to carry. Pack sunscreen SPF 50+ and sunglasses. A light rain jacket for occasional evening storms. Comfortable walking shoes are essential — Istanbul's old city is hilly and has cobblestones. Evenings may require a light layer.

Summer traffic in Istanbul increases significantly in June. The E-80 motorway from Istanbul Airport (IST) can experience congestion particularly on Friday and Sunday evenings, and all major roads get busier.
