Six things worth knowing before you go
- 01
Leave before 9am on weekdays and before 8am at weekends to beat the traffic out to Kilyos and Şile.
- 02
Pack SPF 50+. The summer sun is intense here and reflection off the sea amplifies the burn.
- 03
Bring your own water — beach club drink prices in July and August are punishing.
- 04
Black Sea currents are stronger than the Marmara's. Swim inside the flagged zones, especially at Kilyos.
- 05
Coming back from Kilyos on a summer Sunday between 6pm and 9pm can take two hours. Plan around it.
- 06
Book beach clubs ahead for weekends — the Kilyos clubs sell out by noon in peak season.
