Option 2: Metro — M11 + M2 line
The cheapest option. Istanbul's M11 metro line runs directly from Istanbul Airport's underground station to Gayrettepe in about 38 minutes. Step by step
- Exit the arrivals hall and follow the "Metro" signs (underground, left side of the terminal)
- Buy an Istanbulkart from the machines — or tap a contactless bank card
- Take the M11 toward Gayrettepe — about 38 minutes
- At Gayrettepe, follow the signs to the M2 platform
- Take the M2 toward Hacıosman and ride three stops to Taksim
- Exit Taksim station — you're on Taksim Square
Cheapest way in (~$9) and it runs until midnight — but it's not ideal with large luggage.
Option 3: Havaist airport bus (H1 to Taksim)
The Havaist H1 bus runs direct from Istanbul Airport to Taksim Square with no transfers needed. Buses depart every 30 minutes from outside the arrivals terminal (follow the "Havaist / Airport Bus" signs), and the journey takes 60–90 minutes depending on traffic. Option 4: Taxi from Istanbul Airport
Yellow taxis are plentiful outside arrivals at Istanbul Airport. The ride to Taksim takes 50–70 minutes and costs approximately 2,200–2,800 TRY by meter ($70–90). IST Airport is 35 km from central Istanbul and the route includes mandatory motorway and bridge tolls, which the meter adds automatically. Important: always use the meter — some drivers near the terminal offer flat rates that are often higher.
Taxi scam warning: at Istanbul Airport, some unlicensed "taxis" approach passengers inside the terminal. Only use yellow licensed taxis from the official rank outside arrivals — or book a private transfer in advance.

SAW is on Istanbul's Asian side — further from Taksim (60–90 minutes). Your options:
