From Istanbul Airport to Sultanahmet a yellow taxi meters about €52–€57 before tolls. Our VIP transfer on the same road is a fixed €46.99 for the whole vehicle, up to seven passengers. Closer to the airport the meter drops; with five people it doubles. The table below shows where each one comes out ahead.
⚡ Quick verdict
A yellow taxi makes sense if…
- · You are one or two people with light luggage
- · Your hotel is near Taksim, Şişli or Beşiktaş and you land off-peak
- · You are fine queuing at the rank and paying tolls on top
The VIP transfer wins if…
- · You are 5–7 people — one van instead of two taxis
- · Your hotel is far from the airport — the longer the ride, the closer the meter gets to our fixed price
- · You land at rush hour — the meter runs on time in traffic, our price does not move
- · You want a driver waiting for you and your flight tracked
- · You travel with children or a lot of luggage
🚕 What the meter charges in 2026
Istanbul's taxi tariff is set by the city. Since July 20, 2026 a yellow taxi starts at TRY 71.94, adds TRY 47.92 per kilometre and, when it crawls in traffic, runs on a time tariff of TRY 598.90 per hour. The shortest ride costs TRY 230.00.
Two things are not on the meter: bridge and motorway tolls, which the passenger pays on top, and the queue at the rank. Turquoise and black taxis run on a higher tariff again.

Taxi: official yellow-taxi tariff, real road distance, no traffic – rush hour, before tolls. VIP transfer: fixed price per vehicle for up to 7 passengers, tolls included. A taxi takes 4 passengers, so for 5–7 people compare with two taxis.

⚖️ Where the taxi still wins
If you are travelling alone with a cabin bag to a hotel near Taksim and you land at midnight on an empty road, the meter will usually come in under our fixed price. We would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
What the meter does not include is everything around it: the queue after a long flight, tolls added at the end, and the route the driver chooses. A fixed price is decided before you fly.
👨👩👧👦 Groups, luggage and the second taxi
A yellow taxi is licensed for four passengers and boot space is limited. A family of five, or four adults with large suitcases, usually ends up in two taxis — from Istanbul Airport to Taksim that is about €79 on the meter, against €46.99 for one VIP van.
Two taxis also means two queues, two drivers and two sets of tolls — and somebody arriving at the hotel first.

🕗 Rush hour and tolls
The airport roads are fast at night and slow at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. When the taxi is crawling, the meter switches to the time tariff, so the same ride can cost noticeably more at rush hour. Cross the Bosphorus and a bridge toll is added at the end. Our price includes the tolls and stays the same whatever the traffic.
