The short answer: install a data eSIM at home before your flight and switch it on when you land. You arrive online, your own SIM stays in the phone, and you can open your live tracking link before you reach the baggage belt.
Four ways to get online at the airport
Every traveller to Türkiye ends up with one of these, often without choosing. The difference shows in the first ten minutes: already online, or still looking for a connection.
| Option | How it works | Online at landing | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roaming | Your home SIM uses a Turkish network and your carrier bills you | Yes | Short trips on a plan that includes Türkiye |
| Airport SIM desk | Buy a Turkish SIM after landing, with your passport | No | Long stays that need a Turkish number |
| Airport Wi-Fi | Free login inside the terminal | Only in the terminal | A quick message before you leave the building |
| Data eSIM | Installed at home, switched on when you land | Yes | Most holidays and business trips |
Roaming is simple, but its price depends entirely on your carrier, so check your plan before you fly. The SIM desk is the only way to get a Turkish number, at the cost of a queue after a long flight. Wi-Fi ends at the terminal door, which is exactly where you start looking for your driver.
Does your phone support eSIM?
Most phones from the last few years do: iPhone XR/XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer. Some regional versions are the exception, including iPhones sold in mainland China.
The quickest check takes ten seconds: dial *#06#. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM.
The phone must also be unlocked. A phone locked to your home carrier refuses another eSIM, and you only find out when the installation fails.
Installing it: five steps, done at home
- 1
Install before your flight, on Wi-Fi. Scan the QR code, or on iPhone tap the install link. It takes a couple of minutes.
- 2
Give the new line a clear name, such as “Türkiye”, and keep your home line for calls and texts.
- 3
Leave the eSIM switched off until you land. Data packages usually start when they first connect in Türkiye.
- 4
After landing, choose the eSIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line only.
- 5
Do not delete the eSIM during your trip. Most eSIMs cannot be installed a second time.
On iPhone the option is under Settings › Mobile Service › Add eSIM; on Android under Settings › Network & internet › SIMs. Menu names vary slightly by model.
How much data do you need?
Maps, messaging and coordinating a pickup use little data. Video calls, streaming and posting video use the most. For a week of maps, WhatsApp and some social media, a few gigabytes is usually enough; heavy video use needs more.
Buying a Turkish SIM: what to know
Airport desks sell tourist SIMs against your passport. A Turkish SIM in a phone bought abroad works only for a limited period before the phone must be registered (IMEI registration, which carries a fee). For a holiday this rarely matters; for a long stay, check the current rules before you buy.
The practical cost is time: the desks are after passport control, and after a long flight the queue can be the slowest part of your arrival.
The first ten minutes: finding your driver
Your live tracking link shows the exact meeting point and where your driver is. With data on landing you open it at the baggage belt, message your driver in the chat if the terminal is busy, and walk straight to the car.

A free 3 GB eSIM with every airport pickup
Book a private transfer from any Türkiye airport and a 3 GB eSIM for one week comes free, whichever vehicle you choose. Your driver shares Wi-Fi in the car, we send the QR code by e-mail or WhatsApp, and you are online in about two minutes. Need more data? Add a 5 to 30 GB package in the last step of your booking and pay for it in cash in the car, together with your fare.
