Çanakkale·2 days, 1 night
Price on request
Çanakkale is about 330 kilometres from Istanbul, five to six hours in a car each way since the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge opened, and that arithmetic is why this is a two-day tour. The single-day version exists, but it means fifteen hours in which the battlefields get three; some operators who sell it do not even bring you back the same evening. Over two days the first afternoon belongs to the Gallipoli peninsula — Anzac Cove, Lone Pine, Chunuk Bair and the Kabatepe museum, walked slowly, with a guide who can tell you which ridge is which. You sleep on the waterfront in Çanakkale or Eceabat. The second morning crosses to Troy, where nine cities are stacked on one mound and the Troy Museum holds what was found in them, and you are back in Istanbul in the evening. It is a quiet, serious trip rather than a sightseeing sprint, and it suits people with a name to look for as much as readers of Homer.
Out of the city before the morning traffic builds.
A break on the road, then the strait from the bridge that crosses it.
On the waterfront, facing the peninsula.
The landing beach, the cemetery above it and Atatürk's words on the memorial.
The trench lines on the ridge, a few metres apart in places.
Letters, uniforms and objects found on the ground you have just walked.
A waterfront hotel; the evening is yours.
The mound, the walls of several Troys and the ramp from the Bronze Age city.
The finds, including the pieces returned from abroad, in the building beside the site.
Five to six hours back, with a stop.
Later if the Friday traffic is against us.
You can find it sold as one day, and we do not sell it. It is 330 kilometres each way: a single day means leaving at six, spending three hours on the peninsula and nothing at Troy, or being dropped in Çanakkale rather than brought home. Two days is what the trip actually takes.
On the waterfront in Çanakkale or in Eceabat, closer to the battlefields. Your quote names the hotel before you accept it — we do not book a room you have not seen.
25 April is a different operation: the ceremonies need passes, the roads close, the peninsula fills and hotels are taken months ahead. We can plan it, but ask early in the year, not in April.
Honestly, it rewards a guide. The site is nine cities stacked on one mound and the walls are low; without someone to read them it is a field of stones. With the Troy Museum next door, where the finds are, the morning holds up.
Tell us the name, unit and, if you have it, the cemetery when you request the quote. The Commonwealth cemeteries are scattered across the peninsula and the route is rearranged around the one you need, with time to stand there.
Yes — if you are already in the area, or arriving by air, the tour becomes a full day on the peninsula and a half day at Troy without the two long drives. Say so in your request and the quote reflects it.
