How the Race Works
- Register early
- Places open months ahead via the Turkish National Olympic Committee and sell out — separate national and international quotas. Secure your spot before booking flights.
- Boat to the start
- On race morning swimmers are ferried by boat to the Kanlıca start on the Asian side.
- Swim Asia → Europe
- ~6.5 km down the strait with the current, between scenic shores, the bridges overhead and the city watching.
- Finish at Kuruçeşme
- Exit on the European side at Kuruçeşme. Medals, the famous continent-to-continent bragging rights, and a great post-race brunch.
Race-Morning Logistics & Road Closures
The start (Kanlıca, Asia) and finish (Kuruçeşme, Europe) are on opposite continents, so you can't simply park at one and walk to the other. On race morning, roads along the Bosphorus — around Kanlıca, Çengelköy, Bebek and Kuruçeşme — see closures and heavy congestion, with spectators packing the bridges and waterfront.
This is exactly where a pre-booked transfer earns its keep: a driver who plans around the closures gets you to the assembly point before the early start, and meets you near the finish afterwards so you're not chasing a surging taxi in a swim cap. Self-driving near the route on race day is best avoided entirely.
Supporters can watch from the bridges or book a Bosphorus cruise for a waterside view of the swim.
