Best Beaches Near Istanbul 2026

Kilyos (Sarıyer) is the closest proper sandy beach to central Istanbul. A 32 km drive north along the European shore brings you to open Black Sea coast where the water is cleaner and the waves stronger than the Marmara. In July and August it turns into Istanbul's Ibiza — beach clubs pump music, sunbed rows fill by 10am at weekends, and the road back becomes a car park by 6pm.

The beach clubs — Arena Beach, Escape Beach Club, Aqua Club — charge €15–25 including a sunbed. The free public beaches (Kilyos Sahili) are perfectly fine if you bring your own gear. On safety: currents can be strong near the northern headland, so always swim within the flagged green zones.

It suits families, couples, and anyone who wants a genuinely relaxed day rather than a party scene. Several beach hotels sell day access to their facilities. The Princes Islands (Adalar) are nine small islands in the Marmara, visible from Istanbul's Asian shore. The largest, Büyükada, is the most visited and has the best swimming.
