Every April, Istanbul transforms into a sea of color. The Istanbul Lale Festivali (Tulip Festival) sees over 30 million tulips bloom across 800 locations — parks, roadsides, mosque courtyards, and historic plazas. The tulip is deeply rooted in Ottoman culture (the word "lale" and "Allah" share the same Arabic letters), making this festival both visually spectacular and culturally meaningful. And it's completely free.

Photography Tips for the Tulip Festival
- Golden hour at Emirgan
- Sunrise (06:30–08:30) for warm light and zero crowds. Most photogenic tulip shots come before 9 AM.
- Blue Mosque framing
- Sultanahmet Square tulips in the foreground with the Blue Mosque domes behind — classic Istanbul spring shot.
- Drone photography
- Drone permits required in Istanbul. Emirgan and Gülhane are no-fly zones. Avoid fines — use telephoto lenses instead.
- Gülhane's castle walls
- Tulips running along the ancient Byzantine-era walls with Bosphorus views beyond — unique historical contrast.
- Variety shots at Emirgan
- Yellow, White, and Pink pavilions each surrounded by different tulip color palettes. Move between all three.
- April 10–18 window
- Historical weather data shows this is the highest probability window for full bloom across all parks simultaneously.
