On October 29, 1923, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk proclaimed the Turkish Republic to the Grand National Assembly. Every year on this date, Turkey's most patriotic day fills Istanbul with flags, parades, and genuine national pride. For foreign visitors, it offers a rare window into Turkish identity and culture — and autumn Istanbul at 20°C with far fewer tourists is a beautiful backdrop.
